Our Objectives
STEAMworks is putting STEAM education into action and is centred around the industrial and community regeneration activities in Portland, NSW. The objectives of STEAMworks are to:
- provide disadvantaged young people with skills, experience, and advice to choose their next learning pathway.
- provide a range of opportunities for all young people in the community including those that are gifted and talented.
- assist school leavers and unemployed people to develop work skills and gain employment experience.
- undertake projects in Portland and the wider Central West that support environmental rehabilitation and enhance community facilities.
- support program participants to develop their artistic talents and business capabilities
- partner with organisations to support entrepreneurship and help participants start their own businesses.
- partner with organisations such as The Foundations Portland that offer hands-on work experience projects for participants to develop their skills.
- partner with organisations to deliver a range of community focussed arts, cultural, resilience and enterprise development focussed events.
- partner with tertiary education and employment services providers to help participants achieve their next study and career goals.
- support the development of a sustainable low carbon economy in the region and provide opportunities for program graduates to participate in it.
