Our Objectives

STEAMworks is putting STEAM education into action and is centred around the industrial and community regeneration activities in Portland, NSW. The objectives of STEAMworks are to:

  • provide disadvantaged young people with skills, experience, and advice to choose their next learning pathway.
  • provide a range of opportunities for all young people in the community including those that are gifted and talented.
  • assist school leavers and unemployed people to develop work skills and gain employment experience.
  • undertake projects in Portland and the wider Central West that support environmental rehabilitation and enhance community facilities.
  • support program participants to develop their artistic talents and business capabilities
  • partner with organisations to support entrepreneurship and help participants start their own businesses.
  • partner with organisations such as The Foundations Portland that offer hands-on work experience projects for participants to develop their skills.
  • partner with organisations to deliver a range of community focussed arts, cultural, resilience and enterprise development focussed events.
  • partner with tertiary education and employment services providers to help participants achieve their next study and career goals.
  • support the development of a sustainable low carbon economy in the region and provide opportunities for program graduates to participate in it.
